Maintaining your Deva knife.

  • Never put your knife in the dishwasher.
  • Never soak your knife.
  • Rinse and wipe after use.
  • Store your knife in a dry place where it will not come into contact with other metal items. (A knife block, magnetic bar, box, or designated section of a drawer are good options.)
  • Sharpen the cutting edge at regular intervals, depending on your needs, with a knife steel or quality sharpening stone.

As you use it over time, oxidation will cause your blade to change in appearance. At Deva we believe this oxidation process actually embellishes the blade, accentuating the patterns in the Damascus steel. In this way the owner of the knife contributes to the evolving appearance of the piece. Always wash your knife shortly after use, especially if it has been in contact with acidic foods (lemons, tomatoes, etc.). Dry after washing.

Stainless steel blade

“Stainless” is not an absolute term: while stainless steel is highly resistant to oxidation, it is possible that after several years of use a mottled pattern may appear on the surface of the blade. This light oxidation is a mark of quality, as it proves that a steel with high carbon content was used in the blade.
